Jobs comes closest to what I want to be in my life. Remembered.
It's difficult to find the right mentor in this oft-selfish corporate world. So I started seeking inspiration from everything Steve Jobs a couple of years ago - and it was such exhilaration. I have never used an Apple product, and may never. It doesn't matter.
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do ... If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on."
His life has taught me a very important lesson. You won't become a legend without going through your share of struggles. Whether it was his personal or professional life, Jobs had his fair share of hassles, issues and detractors.
Does it matter today though? He has been relieved of his struggles. Elevated to much deserved immortal greatness.
All this on a day when a dear friend is getting engaged, and my mother celebrates her Birthday. I woke up seeing the news on my phone ... and the thought hasn't left me. I don't know if I've lost a mentor, or have one immortalized. All I know is - I feel a little lonely. Something snapped inside of me.
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
You will never die for me Steve, as I've never seen you live. My only regret now is that I never will ...
